Round shape was a struggle for consumers to fit in their bags and was difficult to slice since it rolled. The farmer from Zentsuji, in Kagawa prefecture had a clever idea of growing watermelons in square-shaped glass containers. The fruit would assume then the shape of the container. Despite being exported all throughout Japan, the price of the square watermelon will set you back – it costs 10,000 yen or 83 dollars!
